Chapter Seven
It didn’t take that long for Roy to start planning his move after talking to Jez. Once there was some light at the end of the tunnel, he didn’t find making preparations to move so hard. Jez had offered to help and Roy had decided to take him up on it, but when he was there, he realized that there was no reason for Jez to help at all.
To start with, Roy didn't really have that many things, so it wasn’t as if they were moving tons of stuff out. Everything in the apartment had once belonged to Bobby and none of it now belonged to Roy. In truth, he supposed that it all belonged to Rowdy Rhonda, but he was trying his best not to think about her. He was trying his best to only think about what had to be done instead of the fact that he was leaving The Missing Beards behind, leaving all of Bobby’s hard work behind.
There were few things that he had other than his vehicles and fewer things that he wanted to bring. It was lucky that the apartment was already furnished, Roy thought absent-mindedly. He didn't want to have to buy anything and he was lucky that he didn’t need to take anything because that would have taken at least two trips. His bed truck was full because it had been taken up by both of his bikes. Luckily, it looked like that was all that he needed to take with him to the city. Well, there was one more thing.
He had found a couple of boxes with Bobby’s stuff. He put it in the cab of his truck. He still hadn’t felt up to it. He knew that he needed to go through all of her stuff, comb through her paperwork. Through all of her paperwork. The one that was related to the apartment, the one that was related to the club. Everything in there was relevant, Roy was sure of it. However, he just hadn’t felt up to it. It was weird doing it in Bobby’s apartment, because it felt like he was sneaking behind Bobby’s back, even though she didn't care. She couldn't care, because she was no longer around.
Jez didn't help him pack up, perhaps because there was nothing to help him with. Roy thought that he would just stand around, doing nothing, but that wasn’t what happened at all.
While Roy sat down on the bed in the apartment, deliberating on what he could take to his new place in the city—it was weird to think of it like that—Jez asked Roy where he could find a mop and a bucket.
Roy told him, feeling a little confused about what Jez was asking him. Jez made himself useful straight away, though, he cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. Roy barely noticed him, all that he could hear was scrubbing and whistling.
When he was about to leave and he turned around, the place looked spotless. It looked better than it had for weeks, maybe years.
